The following is a list of resources for the Houston film community, in no particular order. Please contact me at info@samkuzel.com if you have a suggestion for an addition or edit to this list. I would very much recommend attending one of the meetup groups if you’re looking to get acquainted with local filmmakers.
Houston Film Events Calendar:
This is a calendar I made in an attempt to put all the Houston film industry events in one place. Contact me if you want me to add your event, or if you have any issues with the calendar.
2nd Tuesdays - (Formerly “The Houston Film Industry Meetup Group”)
Film industry mixer that meets monthly—2nd Tuesday of each month—at 7:00pm. The meetup group has a large turnout, has been running for years, and is great for networking! Organized by “Not Another Film Organization”Brian Alan DeLaney and David Clark.
The current venue is: Bad Astronaut (1519 Fulton St, Houston, TX 77009).
Not Another Film Screening
Monthly screening of local short films — usually the last Friday of each month at 7:00pm. Organized by “Not Another Film Organization” founders Brian Alan DeLaney and David Clark.

Houston Industry Steak Night
Film industry mixer that meets about every other month on Sundays. Check the link above for the date and RSVP. If you don’t plan on having steak, no need to RSVP or pay, but if you want steak you need to pay the fee and RSVP well ahead of time so they have enough food for everyone.
The current venue is: East End Hardware (3005 Leeland St, Houston, TX 77003).
First Thursdays - Meetup for Networking and Short Film Screenings

This is a monthly meetup put on by the Houston Film Commission at Café Brasil (2604 Dunlavy St, Houston, TX 77006) on the first Thursday of each month at 8:00pm. They screen local short films and give local filmmakers an opportunity to mingle.
Houston Film Discord
This Discord server is for Houston-area filmmakers. People come here to network and interact with cast & crew calls.
Houston Film Commission
Casting & crew calls, help with obtaining permits, and much more! This is an organization officially associated with the city, funded by a hotel tax.

SWAMP (Southwest Alternative Media Project)
SWAMP is a great resource for local filmmakers. They have workshops, meetups, and other events.
WIFT Houston (Women in Film & Television Houston)

Excellent organization that organizes events with a focus on women. Their yearly speed-networking event, which is modeled after speed-dating, is an absolute delight.
Space City Film Community Monthly Meetup

This is Space City Studios’ monthly mixer at Space Cowboy (100 W Cavalcade St, Houston, TX 77009). The event is held on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
